TRIBUTES: Chris Hunter

NOTTINGHAMSHIRE FA are mourning the death of young referee Chris Hunter, who died suddenly this week at the age of 35.

Hunter officiated across Non-League from Steps 2-4, including in the National League North.

A whole host of league officials, clubs and fellow referees have led the tributes for Hunter, while the Step 7 Nottingham Senior League held a minute’s silence before yesterday’s round of fixtures.

The PGMOL, the body responsible for refereeing games in English football, said it was “deeply saddened” by Hunter’s death.

“Our thoughts are with his family, friends and the refereeing family,” it wrote. “Rest in Peace, Chris.”

Several former Premier League referees also offered their condolences, including Chris Foy and president of Penistone Church FC, Keith Hackett, who posted: “My condolences to the family and friends of Chris Hunter on this shocking news. RIP Chris.”
