BILLERICAY Town boss Gary McCann says the club’s big-spending history has made his side a target for their Isthmian Premier rivals.
The Essex outfit were bought by steel millionaire Glenn Tamplin in 2016. His lavish three-year reign saw the signings of former Premier League stars Paul Konchesky, Jamie O’Hara and Jermaine Pennant.
Tamplin stepped down in 2019 but McCann, right, believes Billericay’s reputation for extravagance lingers on – which is why he has spent the summer signing players strong enough to repel the scalp-hunters.
