PROUD Falmouth Town chairman Graham Medlin believes everyone at the club should take a bow after the Cornish outfit scooped The FSA Away Day Experience of the Year accolade.
Voted for by members of the Football Supporters’ Association, the honour highlights the work done by clubs to make an away day experience memorable for supporters.
To come through as winners out of all the Non-League clubs up and down the country is a noteworthy achievement and suggests that Southern League Division One South rookies Falmouth are prepared to go the extra mile.
“I don’t think we do much differently to a lot of club,” he modestly told The NLP. “However, we have a lot of volunteers and that’s the big thing.
“There are a lot of people behind the scenes that work hard and most of the time they don’t get any recognition. They will be over the moon that we’ve won this award.
“It’s an honour to have won it across Non-League – it’s absolutely brilliant.”
Accepting the prize on the club’s behalf, Southern League chairman David Martin revealed he had heard plenty of praise for Town’s Cornish Pasties.
Long-serving chairman Medlin admitted: “Damys do all the catering and they make pasties that are very well received.”
With Falmouth finishing comfortably in mid-table in their maiden campaign in the Southern League and bagging the Cornwall Senior Cup, they have impressed on the field as well as off it in 2024-25.
But they won’t be resting on their laurels as they bid to build on their successes. A warm welcome is guaranteed to away fans, even if their team may leave without any points to show for their long journey.
“It was our first season at this level in the history of the club and it was a tough old battle, but the boys did really well,” added Medlin. “They are loyal and love playing for Falmouth – it’s not about the money.
“Where we are geographically makes things very hard financially, but we will try to keep improving everything we do. We are going forwards as a club.”
And Football Supporters Association (FSA) Network Manager for Community Owned Clubs Richard Irving explained just what set Falmouth apart, saying: “It was very much about the atmosphere on the day.
“The welcome was particularly noted as being of a very friendly nature, and just the all-round way that the club is set up and is functioning now, seemed to appeal to a lot of our fans.
“Obviously, for many of them, it is a long way to go but clearly when they have got there, they have had a real welcome and a really good experience.”
