BIG teams had tumbled into the Conference before. Doncaster in 1998. Carlisle and York a few years later. Wrexham and Oxford were monsters both.
But Luton Town? This was a different ball game. The Hatters had spent most of the 1980s at the highest level of English football, and were one of the original signatories to the creation of the Premier League.
In 1987, they finished above Manchester United and Chelsea. In 1988, they’d beaten Arsenal at Wembley to lift the League Cup.
