SMITH STEPS IN FOR STEVE

STEVE CASTLE says Bishop’s Stortford director of football Steve Smith is the perfect man to deputise for him while he recovers from a hip operation.
The Blues boss will miss the beginning of their Southern Premier Central season because he needs to go under the knife.
Smith is more than familiar to the dugout, though, having been in charge for more than 250 games between 2016 and 2024 when he stood down.
In that time Smith, who is also majority shareholder at the Hertfordshire outfit, guided them to the Isthmian Premier title in 2022-23.
