JONATHAN SMITH’S second-half strike handed caretaker manager John Pemberton a win in his first game in charge.
The Spireites hadn’t won at the Proact Stadium since October and faced a tough task against a revitalised Sutton United side who were unbeaten for eight games in the National League.
In the Chesterfield dugout once again was Pemberton, who was handed the role on a temporary basis last season and given the caretaker role once again following the sacking of John Sheridan on Thursday.
