A Match abandoned due to medical incident

took a backseat at Hayes Lane as Bromley's visit of Yeovil Town was abandoned after 11 minutes of play following a serious medical emergency in the crowd.

An incident off the pitch saw referee Lloyd Wood signal for all players and coaching staff to leave the pitch before a final decision was taken to abandon the match and evacuate the ground.

“We wish to express our sincere gratitude to the supporters who flagged the incident, medical teams of both clubs, as well as doctors within the crowd who assisted stadium paramedics, the supporter sadly passed away. firming the events around the incident.

It read: “ can confirm that our home fixture with Yeovil Town was abandoned shortly after kick-off due to a medical incident. ics until the ambulance crew arrived and transferred them to hospital.

“Despite the best efforts of all involved, the club have since been informed that the supporter has sadly passed away. Everyone at Bromley FC is deeply saddened by this news and we extend our heartfelt condolences to the supporter's friends and family.”

Prior to the tragic incident, both Bromley and Yeovil went close to scoring in the opening ten minutes with Bromley's Louis Dennis crashing a deflected effort against the underside of the crossbar at one end and Morgan Williams curling an effort just over at the other end.

However, that all paled into insignificance once events off the pitch escalated.

A Yeovil players' statement last night read: “From all the playing staff ay Yeovil Town we send our thoughts and prayers to everyone involved in the incident at today's game.

“Credit to everyone in the stadium for their grace in a very difficult situation, especially both teams' medical staff and the paramedics present.

“We send our regards to the person involved, their friends and family in really horrible circumstances. At times like this, the whole football family rallies together and shows that it it more than just a game.”
