GATESHEAD paid the price for missed as chances as depleted battlers Southend fought back to earn a precious point on the banks of the Tyne.
Stephen Wearne’s 10th goal of the season gave Gateshead an early lead they were unable to build on, though 14-goal top scorer Marcus Dinanga spurned a golden chance in each half.
