Match Preview: Halifax Town v Chesterfield (Tuesday, 7.45pm)

Chesterfield travel to the Shay Stadium for Tuesday’s late match against Halifax Town looking to bounce back from defeat last time out in the National League.

The Spireites, who sit top of the league after 33 games, fell to a 4-3 away defeat to Bromley on Saturday.

They face a Halifax side who picked up a win in their last match, a 2-1 victory against Woking, and who sit ninth in the table.

With 82 goals in 33 games so far this season, Chesterfield are the league’s highest scorers with 2.5 goals per game. And they are conceding fewer than average, letting in 42 goals at a rate of 1.3 per game.

Halifax, meanwhile, are below average scorers, with 1.2 goals per game, compared to a league average of 1.5. They have conceded 1.1 goals per game.

In the last 10 years, Halifax and Chesterfield have played each other on 12 occasions. They won five each, and they drew twice.

On average, the Shaymen scored 1.2 goals and the Spireites 1.2 in those matches.

Their last meeting was on September 19, when Chesterfield won 3-2 at home.

Town are in mixed form in the National League, with three wins and three losses from their last six games.

With four wins and a draw over that period, the Spireites’s form is better – they have taken 13 points from 18, compared to the Shaymen’s nine.
