There is a reduced schedule of National League games this weekend, meaning that York City have the opportunity to go top of the table.
Most of the fifth-tier sides are yet to play in 2026 after a host of fixtures were postponed last weekend due to the freezing weather.
Carlisle United and Forest Green Rovers were the biggest winners, with Mark Hughes’ men now top of the table, although they have played more games than those around them.
However, the Minstermen have the opportunity to leapfrog their rivals at the top and will do so on goal difference if they manage to beat struggling Sutton United for the first time in their history.
There are now four games scheduled for Saturday, with Aldershot Town v Solihull Moors added to the weekend’s fixtures, and Braintree United’s evening clash with Boston United the only match live on DAZN this weekend.

Aldershot Town vs Solihull Moors
Kick-off at 3pm GMT on Saturday, January 10th 2026
The late addition to the National League schedule sees revitalised Aldershot host mid-table side Solihull at the EBB Stadium.
John Coleman’s men are on a hot streak in the league and are unbeaten in their last four. However, despite their emphatic run, they only sit above the relegation places on goal difference.
Meanwhile, the Moors’ winning streak was halted by the league’s form team, Boreham Wood, but there is still an outside chance of the play-offs if they can get back on track.
Despite the 11-point gap between the two clubs, it promises to be a closely fought encounter on Saturday afternoon.
Sutton United vs York City
Kick-off at 3pm GMT on Saturday, January 10th 2026
With the top three not in action, there is an opening for York to become the latest leaders in the National League when they travel to the VBS Community Stadium on Saturday.
The Minstermen are unbeaten in their last 13 fifth-tier games and are the division’s top goalscorers by some distance, with Ollie Pearce flying towards the golden boot on 21 goals.
As for Sutton, they have slipped into the relegation zone after a run of three games without a win.
Chris Agutter’s side have not won since their victory over bottom side Gateshead in late November, but can climb out of the drop zone if they beat York this weekend.
Although Stuart Maynard’s men head into the clash as the overwhelming favourites, they have failed to claim victory over the U’s in any of their previous five meetings.

Woking vs Hartlepool United
Kick-off at 3pm GMT on Saturday, January 10th 2026
Only three places separate Woking and Hartlepool United in the National League, meaning that this promises to be a closely fought encounter at the Laithwaite Community Stadium.
The headline news surrounding the Monkey Hangers is that American real estate developer Landon Smith has bought the North East side after Raj Singh’s long-awaited sale was finally confirmed.
While Nicky Featherstone’s men have been inconsistent of late, they secured the unlikeliest of wins to end 2025 on a high by defeating promotion favourites Rochdale 2-1 on away soil.
Woking, on the other hand, are on a run of three matches without a win and sit in mid-table.
Having lost to struggling Braintree Town at home, they will be up against it to return to winning ways against a rejuvenated Pools side.
Braintree Town vs Boston United
Kick-off at 5:30pm GMT on Saturday, January 10th 2026
The late kick-off in the National League comes from the Rare Breed Meat Co. Stadium as two of the division’s strugglers meet in a crucial encounter.
Only one point and place separates the two sides as they sit precariously above the relegation zone, but a win for either team would put some daylight between them and the drop zone.
While Boston are above Braintree, they are on a run of four matches without a win, although they were unfortunate not to beat title contenders York on Boxing Day.
As for Steve Pitt’s men, they began the New Year with an away defeat to Yeovil Town, but they did pick up an unlikely away win at Woking to end 2025 on a high.
