The National League returns this weekend with a full set of fixtures and a selection of top-of-the-table clashes to whet the appetite.

After Rochdale’s convincing victory over Boreham Wood in midweek, Jimmy McNulty’s side now top the pile, while the latter’s title hopes have surely evaporated.

It is now up to the Dale to maintain their position as title favourites, but with six of the top eight all facing each other on Saturday, that could all change.

The picture at the bottom of the table is incredibly tight, with only four points separating 14th and 21st, meaning that a host of clubs have work to do to steer clear of the relegation zone.

In what will be a pivotal weekend of National League action, here is a closer look at the pick of the action.

Rochdale vs Carlisle United

Kick off at 3pm GMT on Saturday, February 7th 2026

The biggest clash of the afternoon comes from the Crown Oil Arena as table-topping Rochdale host third-placed Carlisle United.

McNulty’s men are the team to stop in the fifth tier and top the pile with a two-point gap over York City, while they also have two games in hand on the Minstermen.

After defeating lacklustre Boreham Wood on Tuesday night, the Dale have now won their last five and are clear favourites to clinch the league title.

However, Carlisle should provide a stern test on Saturday afternoon, and a win would close the gap between the clubs to just five points.

Mark Hughes’ side returned to winning ways by beating Altrincham last weekend to end a run of three matches without a win in all competitions.

Scunthorpe United vs Southend United

Kick off at 3pm GMT on Saturday, February 7th 2026

One of the more eye-catching clashes in the National League this weekend comes from the Attis Arena as Scunthorpe United welcome Southend United.

Both sides have a play-off place in their hands, but there is still significant work to do for the Shrimpers to secure a position in the top seven.

Scunthorpe defeated Forest Green Rovers a fortnight ago to stretch their stellar league run to seven games without defeat, although they were knocked out of the Isuzu FA Trophy by Horsham last weekend.

Southend suffered a cruel late defeat to league leaders Rochdale in their last league outing, but progressed to the FA Trophy quarter-finals after defeating Chatham Town on Saturday.

With only two positions separating the teams before kick-off, this game promises to have significant implications on the play-off picture.

York City vs Forest Green Rovers

Kick off at 3pm GMT on Saturday, February 7th 2026

York are still well in the National League title race, but will face a tricky opponent of their own as they strive to keep pace with the league leaders.

Stuart Maynard’s men defeated Solihull Moors last weekend to maintain their rampant run of form, with the Minstermen now unbeaten in their last 15 games in all competitions.

It has been an eventful week on and off the pitch for Forest Green ahead of their crucial trip to the LNER Community Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Robbie Savage’s team came from behind to defeat Woking 4-2 in midweek, meaning that they climbed to fourth and could further close the gap at the top with a win over York.

However, Savage has been heavily linked with the vacant Blackburn Rovers hotseat, although the Welshman has played down speculation of a sensational return to his former club.

Eastleigh vs Wealdstone

Kick off at 5.30pm GMT on Saturday, February 7th 2026

The televised game of the weekend comes from the Silverlake Stadium as Eastleigh aim to move clear of the relegation zone when they face mid-table Wealdstone.

Scott Bartlett’s side have been dragged into a relegation scrap after an abysmal run of form that has seen them lose their last four National League matches.

The Spitfires’ latest defeat came at the hands of fellow strugglers Braintree Town last weekend, meaning that they are now only three points and four places above the drop zone.

As for Wealdstone, they are now seven points clear of the bottom four, but they will be eyeing a second successive league win to give them even more breathing space.

The Stones are on a run of three straight victories in all competitions, having smashed promotion hopefuls Forest Green 3-0 in the Isuzu FA Trophy last weekend.
