It was another dramatic weekend in the National League as teams at the top and bottom of the table picked up valuable points, with several late goals.

Rochdale looked to be returning to the summit after their victory over Aldershot Town, only for York City to snatch the latest of victories over relegation-threatened Morecambe.

Elsewhere, Braintree Town scored two late goals to overcome fellow strugglers Truro City and boost their chances of survival as the only bottom-six side to claim victory.

There is little time for reflection, though, as the fifth tier returns in midweek, with 16 clubs in action across Tuesday and Wednesday night.

With every National League game available to watch live on DAZN, here are the pick of the midweek matches.

Boreham Wood vs York City

Kick off at 7.45pm GMT on Tuesday, March 3rd 2026

York will be aiming to extend their extraordinary run of straight National League victories to 10 when they travel to promotion rivals Boreham Wood on Tuesday night.

The Minstermen struggled to break down a valiant 10-man Morecambe on Saturday evening, only for Ollie Banks to volley home in the ninth minute of stoppage time.

That 1-0 win means that Stuart Maynard’s side kept their position as league leaders ahead of Rochdale, but must overcome the Wood to ensure they remain there heading into the weekend.

Boreham Wood will be striving to bounce back after their 3-2 defeat to Tamworth on the weekend, with the play-offs looking like a formality for Luke Garrard’s men.

The Wood occupy fourth position with a 12-point cushion on eighth-placed Southend United and took a point from the LNER Community Stadium earlier in the season.

Hartlepool United vs Sutton United

Kick off at 7.45pm GMT on Tuesday, March 3rd 2026

Two clubs with contrasting National League ambitions meet at the Prestige Group Stadium as Hartlepool United host Sutton United.

The Monkey Hangers were not in action on the weekend, but will be looking to replicate a stunning performance that saw them overcome Carlisle United last Wednesday.

Nicky Featherstone’s side have won their last two and are eyeing a play-off place with the club two points adrift of seventh-place Halifax Town.

Sutton rescued a valuable point against FC Halifax Town on Saturday afternoon to boost their hopes of survival in the fifth tier.

The U’s have only lost one of their last five, but with Braintree picking up a much-needed win, they are only three points above the drop zone.

Rochdale vs Brackley Town

Kick off at 7.45pm GMT on Tuesday, March 3rd 2026

Rochdale will be hoping to leapfrog York at the top of the National League table when they host strugglers Brackley Town on Tuesday night.

The Dale were on course to end the weekend as league leaders, having beaten Aldershot 2-1, only for the Minstermen to snatch a 99th-minute winner to defeat Morecambe.

While Jimmy McNulty’s side are one point behind their title rivals, promotion is in their own hands as they have a game in hand on Stuart Maynard’s men.

Brackley continued their slide towards the relegation zone after their 2-0 loss to Altrincham, with new manager Andy Whing up against it to turn around their abysmal form.

The Saints have lost their last three league games and are only three points above the bottom four, but did win the previous meeting between the sides.

Southend United vs Truro City

Kick off at 7.45pm GMT on Tuesday, March 3rd 2026

Southend will be aiming to return to the National League play-off places when they welcome Truro on Tuesday night.

Kevin Maher’s side were not in league action last weekend but defeated Isthmian League Premier Division outfit Horsham 2-1 on Saturday, advancing to the Isuzu FA Trophy semi-finals.

The Shrimpers are only one place and one point behind seventh-place Halifax and have five games in hand on their promotion rivals.

Truro need a miracle if they are to avoid an instant return to the National League South as they are bottom of the table and 12 points adrift of safety.

John Askey’s side threw away their lead to lose 3-2 to Braintree in a relegation humdinger, with Aidan Francis-Clarke firing home a 95th-minute winner for the Iron.

Gateshead vs Braintree Town

Kick off at 7.45pm GMT on Wednesday, March 4th 2026

The only game on Wednesday night comes from the Gateshead International Stadium as the Heed welcome Braintree in a relegation showdown.

Gateshead’s run of three National League games without loss was ended by Forest Green Rovers on the weekend, with Tom Knowles and Chibuzo Nwoko sinking them in a 2-0 defeat.

Rob Elliot’s side sits in 23rd position and are 10 points adrift of safety, meaning that this clash falls into the must-win category.

Braintree ended a run of four matches without a win to defeat bottom side Truro in a 3-2 win, with Francis-Clarke scoring in the 80th and 95th minutes to secure the late, late triumph.

The Iron are just three points off safety and could go level on points with Brackley and Sutton if they win and other results go their way.
