Paul Cook returns to Chesterfield as manager

Cook led the Spireites to the League Two title in 2014 and then the League One play-offs the following season during his previous spell.

Paul Cook has returned to as manager, seven years since leaving the club.

The former Ipswich Town, Portsmouth and Wigan Athletic boss led the Spireites to the League Two title in 2014 and then the League One play-offs the following season during his previous spell.

Cook, 54, replaces James Rowe, who left the club by mutual consent last week after he was suspended following an investigation into allegations of misconduct.

Danny Webb took charge on a temporary basis and oversaw wins against and Dagenham & , plus a draw at Stockport County on Tuesday night. He will stay at Chesterfield as Cook’s assistant.

Spireites chief executive John Croot said: “We are delighted to welcome Paul back to the club. He enjoyed great success here previously and to secure someone with his impressive track record is a real coup. 

“Paul was our number one target when we began our search for a new manager and we are sure that our supporters will share our delight that he has agreed to take the role.

“Danny Webb is looking forward to working with Paul as part of the new management team.”
