Jermain Defoe had to call upon the nephew of an old team-mate to salvage a draw from his first match in charge of Woking – and compared his super-sub Kian Pennant to Raheem Sterling.
The former England striker nearly saw his managerial debut end in a chastening defeat, until wing wizard Pennant intervened.
The winger – a relative of Defoe’s former Portsmouth pal Jermaine Pennant – made one and scored the other as the Cards fought back from 3-1 down to ensure there would be no damp squib for the new boss.
