High-flyers settle for dull stalemate

HONOURS were shared at the Viridor Stadium following a goalless draw between two sides that started the day in the top four.
A quiet start to the game was enlivened just past the quarter hour when home keeper Lloyd Irish couldn’t hold a Sam Smart cross and George Bennett crashed the loose ball off the crossbar.
Ben Wright then glanced a header just wide while Irish denied Zidan Akers and Shane White blocked a Smart effort as Basingstoke continued to be the more incisive team going forward.
