YATE lost ground on leaders Blackfield and Langley in the title race and only a late equaliser enabled them to salvage something from the game.
Well-organised and combative Totton, who led 1-0 at the break, defended in depth during the second half and, despite having much of the possession, Yate found it hard to break their opponents down.
Yate failed to test Shane Murphy in the Totton goal in the first half and the visitors went ahead on 37 minutes when debutant goalkeeper Alexis Andre Junior failed to deal with a speculative shot from Stuart Green.
