THE Magpies edged a lively encounter to record their first win of the season.
An early chance created by Olaf Koszela was scooped over the City crossbar by Luke Pardoe, while Wes Fogden sent an angled drive wide of the visitors far post.
Gloucester keeper Jared Thompson beat down a Koszela drive, while at the other end a poor clearance enabled Mekhai Bessasa-Grant a shooting chance, but his effort deflected wide.
A free-kick from Corby Moore was beaten down and scrambled clear, and another Koszela attempt deflected wide.
