THIS grim encounter was decided by an elementary defensive error but had it finished goalless Stratford would have rightfully complained at being held by a lacklustre Hitchin side.
For over half an hour, creativity was stifled by sure-footed defences and the best effort came from Stratford’s Paul McCone whose fierce shot was just tipped over the bar by Sebastian Stacey.
The better chances fell to the Bards and they took the lead after a grim half-hour following an error from keeper Stacey.
