CANVEY Island took a big step towards securing a playoff position with a 5-2 home win against Margate.
In a fairly even first half, it was the visitors who created the better chances in front of goal.
First, Ruben Soares-Junior stung the gloves of Bobby Mason in the Canvey goal. Ben Greenhalgh then tried his luck, with a strong hand from the keeper preventing the opener.
Sam Blackman’s header needed another save before Margate were awarded a penalty. Greenhalgh made no mistake as he gave the visitors a deserved lead.
