The hosts could have been two up in the first five minutes as Ethan Ford and Melford Simpson had shots blocked.
Simpson and Sam King combined for the former’s shot to be saved by Chapman in the Ashford goal. Emmanuel Mensah shot over the bar for Ashford, while King had a nother shot saved.
The deadlock was broken in the 65th minute when Drinkwater flicked on Jordan’s corner at the near post and Finlay Johnson was on hand to tap in at the far post.
