A CLASH between two of the early-season pacesetters ended in a narrow 1-0 victory for Aveley at Maldon & Tiptree.
James Shepherds was adjudged to have fouled Aveley striker Thomas Richardson in the area after 20 minutes to set up what proved to be the winner.
Alexander Akrofi made no mistake from 12-yards to hand his side a victory that ensures they remain hot on the heels of leaders Basildon United.
