BASFORD skipper Matt Thornhill netted the 39th-minute winner which strengthened his club’s promotion push, but also increased Matlock’s worries in the league.
It was a third successive defeat for the Gladiators, who are desperate to replicate their FA Trophy form, which has taken them into the last 32, into their league games.
They have gained just six points from the last 39 on offer.
On the balance of the game, a draw would have been fair.
Matlock’s Spencer Harris struck a 53rd-minute penalty against the bar in the home side...
