A HEADED brace from top scorer Scott Vernon saw Cleethorpes Town claim a deserved win against fellow play-off hopefuls Kidsgrove Athletic.
The opener came in the 18th minute when a Sam Topliss cross was met by Vernon, who located the top corner with a fine finish.
Cleethorpes had by far the better of the first period, but Athletic came close to forcing an equaliser after the break when Theo Richardson athletically tipped over a dangerous free-kick.
However, the home side secured an important three points with 20 minutes left to play.
