■A SORRY display from the hosts presented a perfect opportunity for Widnes to record their first win in six attempts on a bitter day at Townfield.
The first quarter of the game was dominated by 74’ probing the Widnes back line, however it was the visitors who took the lead, a free-kick looped to the back post wasn’t dealt with and James McCulloch stabbed home.
The second arrived moments later. A controversial penalty decision didn’t go down well with the home support and Alex McMillan converted the spot kick.
