WIDNES completed the double over local rivals Prescot Cables.
But the victorious Whites didn’t have it all their way with a dogged Cables arguably having the better chances.
Lewis Buckley spurned a decent opportunity after only 11 minutes, but Widnes keeper Owen Wheeler saved well with his feet.
The home side went in front when Mike Burke nodded home from a deep Jack Hatton free-kick.
