ATHERTON massively dented Matlock’s title hopes with a late winner in a scrappy show at the Proctor Cars Stadium.
Aaron Smith prodded in the loose ball after Matlock could only half clear a cross as they pushed men forward with just a minute remaining.
The visitors had gained in confidence in the latter stages, despite being on the defensive for much of the contest, and they struck with a sucker-punch goal.
