SUBSTITUTE Benito Lowe became an instant hero on his debut with the Matlock crowd as he fired the Gladiators into the play-offs.
Matlock needed to equal Bamber Bridge’s result against Nantwich, but with Nantwich in front, Matlock gained a big advantage. The result in Preston finished all square so Matlock ended up in fourth spot, ahead of the Yellows.
With twenty minutes to go after his initial strike was blocked, Lowe hit a brilliant 25-yarder past Dan Atherton to give Matlock the lead.
