Hinckley made the perfect start when Dom Brennan’s free-kick took a deflection off the wall and flew past a helpless Michael Duggan after four minutes.
James Clifton went close for Spalding with a header before the visitors drew level before the half-hour mark. Nathan Stainfield’s stunning effort rattled the Hinckley crossbar, but Cartwright was on hand to head the rebound home.
