■ SAM Ashton made a winning return to the Leasing. com Stadium and played a crucial part in Bootle claiming all three points yesterday.
The former Macclesfield title-winner made a string of saves throughout the contest, yet could not prevent Joe Bunney from handing the Silkmen a deserved lead.
Bootle could well have capitulated, but to their credit they repelled everything that Macclesfield could throw at them with consummate ease.
