■ WIDNES continued their climb up the table with a convincing win at Newcastle Town thanks to a very strong first-half performance.
A superb strike from Chris Holt after 19 minutes put the visitors in front and they doubled it in first-half injury-time when Jack Mc-Gowan finished off at the back post after the excellent James Steele crashed his initial shot against a post.
Widnes sub, Josh High in creased the away side’s lead with a calm finish when he appeared to be an offside position, but the visitors were well worth their lead.
