■ PONTEFRACT Col-began the New lieries Year in style with a deserved derby victory over local rivals Garforth Town.
The first half was a scrappy affair, with Garforth using the strong wind to switch the hosts around and apply pressure. Clear-cut chances were limited as both sides battled for control.
After the break, Pontefract turned the tide with the wind at their backs and dominated possession for long spells.
The breakthrough arrived after 68 minutes when a drop ball floated into the Garforth box wasn’t fully cleared...
