■ FOR the second time this season St Neots lost by the odd goal in three to runaway league leaders.
In the end, Carlton were happy to defend in numbers to protect their narrow advantage.
They had taken a 34th-minute lead when the lively Lamin Mannen robbed a home defender to set up Ashley Chambers for a neat finish.
St Neots responded well after the break and took the game to their visitors but Oliver Clark extended Carlton’s lead against the run of play with his first touch after coming on as a 68th-minute substitute.
