ZANDVLIET’S IN FOR SPARTANS

BLYTH Spartans took a significant step towards safety after Paul van Zandvliet’s goal saw them squeeze past fellow strugglers Silsden.
In keeping with what was a scrappy contest, the game’s decisive moment saw van Zandvliet punish a defensive error to fire home after 79 minutes.
Not that a bumper crowd at Croft Park cared; more important is a six-point gap to the bottom four with three games left to play.
In the first half, Paul Dudgeon’s effort prompted visiting goalkeeper Tommy Brown to save.
