MERTHYR held on for a deserved victory against a Hartley side who posed a threat throughout the 90 minutes.
It was a tough encounter and Merthyr were made to work for the points throughout by determined opposition.
After fairly even opening exchanges it was the visitors who made the breakthrough after Ben Swallow handled a Salhin Abubakar cross inside the box and Tyron Smith scored from the spot.
Merthyr responded well though and within four minutes they were level as debutant Ismail Yakubu headed in a corner at the far post.
