HIGH LIFE OVER FOR UNITED

WEARHEAD United - the highest club in England - have folded, ending 113 years of history.
The club, whose pitch is 1,107ft above sea level, took the decision at a recent committee meeting. Struggling to attract players, Wearhead switched from the Crook & District Saturday League to the Wear Valley Sunday League in 2018, but to no avail. The club represented the former lead mining village of Wearhead - population around 200 - at the westernmost point of County Durham.
