Coalville Town resign from Southern League

Coalville Town have resigned from the Pitching In Southern Premier Central Division with immediate effect.

The Leicestershire club made the decision after chairman Glyn Rennocks resigned having been involved with the Ravens for over 40 years.

Town finished 11th last season, a year after narrowly missing out on promotion to National League North. They also embarked upon a record-breaking FA Trophy run, knocking out three Step 2 clubs before losing to Macclesfield in the quarter-finals.

Rennocks released a statement on the club’s official website:

“I have always said I am a supporter and it just costs me a lot more than most to go to matches.

“As I approach my 70th birthday, I can no longer continue to subsidise the club. I have always run it in a sustainable way, never cut budgets and the club has no debts.

“After much thought and discussions, I have taken the difficult decision to step away. The club will withdraw its men’s senior team and resign from the Southern League with immediate effect.

“Whilst I appreciate the news will come as a huge shock, I hope one day you will all understand and respect the decision taken.”

The Southern League confirmed:

“Filling the vacancy in Premier Division Central will be the responsibility of the FA Alliance Committee, with any news being announced when available to do so.”
