NEWCASTLE kept their play-off hopes going with a victory over Rugby, who are fighting for their lives.
The first half was a cagey affair with neither side able to gain the upper hand, but the best chance fell to Newcastle when Lee Cropper’s cross was turned behind with a lastditch challenge.
Rugby had a fine chance early in the second half when a backpass fell short but Town keeper Harry Pickering was out quickly.
Newcastle put on the pressure and took the lead on 68 minutes, following good work from Lee Cropper, when Jordan Cole fired home.
