GRESLEY edged out relegationthreatened Rugby, with two goals in the opening seven minutes causing the damage at Butlin Road.
Reece Morris netted a Matthew Melbourne cross for the first before Melbourne claimed the final touch to Tom Manship’s low free-kick which somehow crept under Town keeper Louis Connor.
Rugby got their lifeline on 26 minutes when Melbourne was harshly adjudged to have handled Aaron Moses-Garvey’s volley in the area, and Levi Rowley stepped up to power home the penalty.
But they could not make the telling breakthrough.
