LIAM Ellis was the hero as he struck twice to deny an in-form, high-flying Prescot Cables.
After a lively opening from both sides that saw the midfield dominate play, the home side came closest when Jamie McLellan saw his header come back off the post and bounce to safety.
The Lilywhites broke the deadlock on 26 minutes when Mo Ali powered through from midfield and played in Ellis who rounded Marcus Burgess before slotting home from a tight angle.
