United made it five consecutive home wins in the league with a narrow and hard fought victory over a Prescot side sitting third in the table before kick off.
A match of few clear cut chances was often punctuated by the referees whistle but it was the Rams who opened the scoring on 36 minutes when a long ball from the defence found Tolani Omotola who outpaced the Cables rear guard before finishing confidently past Marcus Burgess.
