LEAGUE leaders Lewes maintained their promotion charge with a convincing 3-1 away at struggling Ashford United.
The Sussex side were in control throughout and led at half-time courtesy of Frankie Chappell’s closerange header from an in-swinging free-kick.
Ashford steadied the ship and defended manfully in the second half but Lewes had too much quality and more goals seemed inevitable.
It took until the 78th minute for them to break through again with Jonte Smith firing home, before James Hammond’s longrange bullet settled it.
