• Aldershot were temporarily saved from closure in extraordinary fashion as a 19-year-old property tycoon named Spencer Trethewy pledged to fund £200,000 to save the Shots from going out of business. However, it soon emerged that the young businessman did not have the funds to keep the club going and Trethewy was dismissed from the club’s board after a matter of months. Trethewy, who now uses the surname Day, can these days be found in the dugout at Southern League Premier South club Farnborough.
