WIDNES made a disappointing start to life in Division One West, losing at home to Radclif fe.
The three points ended Radclif fe’s long wait for an opening day victory which dates all the way back to 2004.
Jon Macken’s visitors opened the scoring after eight minutes when Shelton Payne squared the ball to Ben Wharton who made no mistake with the simple tap in to put his side ahead.
Elliot Rokka doubled the advanta ge nine minutes later with a wonderfully flighted direct free-kick - the bounce catching Richie Mottram out.
