TWO first-half Runcorn goals proved a bridge too far for Clitheroe despite a spirited second half.
There had been little to separate the sides when Paul Shanley opened the scoring for the hosts on 23 minutes, stooping low to head home Mike Simpson’s cross.
Runcorn doubled their lead from the penalty spot after goalkeeper Terry brought Connor McCarthy down. The location of the offence was marginal, but Kurt Sherlock sent Terry the wrong way from the spot.
