WIDNES took the spoils in a close game headlined by two penalties.
Atherton had a great chance to open the scoring on 25 minutes but Jordan Cover’s spot kick was well saved by Widnes custodian Owen Wheeler.
Widnes were not as wasteful with their penalty and the excellent Ben Hodkinson sent Greg Hartley the wrong way to put the visitors ahead.
Colls tried to pull back on level terms but came up against a well-drilled defence who weren’t going to give up a fine three points against the league leaders.
