ATHERTON Collieries made the most of Runcorn Linnets’ disastrous defeat to move back into second in the league table with a fortunate 2-1 victory over Glossop North End.
Despite a committed comeback by the Hillmen, Colls’ first-half display was just about sufficient to give them a welcome three home points – despite Glossop missing a late penalty.
The hosts were two up within the first 12 minutes, Ben Hardcastle latched on to an excellent Connor Gaul pass to score and two minutes later Ian Rowlands tucked in.
