SCOTT Vernon scored five as Market Drayton’s year ended in miserable fashion with a home hammering at the hands of Cleethorpes Town.
The Gingerbread Men had actually started on the front foot and led through Matthew Ballard.
But their advantage was short-lived, Curtis Bateson and Vernon, twice, scoring to put the visitors 3-1 up after ten minutes.
Josh Oglesby and two more from former professional Vernon saw Cleethorpes hit six before the break while Ballard doubled the hosts’ tally.
