SUBSTITUE Seidou Sawogo was East Grinstead’s hero with an injury-time equaliser to preserve their unbeaten league record.
The debutant midfielder netted from close range after Whitstable failed to clear Sean Clohessy’s corner.
Whitstable were the better side in the first half and went in front in the 36th minute when Luke Medley controlled a long ball and fired a powerful right-foot shot into the bottom corner.
Clohessy levelled ten minutes after the break with a deflected shot after good work by Michael Uwezu.
