AVRO climbed into the play-off places with victory at Hanley Town.
Joe Mswaile fired narrowly wide for Hanley after six minutes, but that was the only notable effort in a first-half.
The 56th-minute introduction of Max Harrop brightened Avro significantly.
Within two minutes, he had forced an easy save from Adam Whitehouse and then went on a mazy run towards the Hanley box, but then was penalised.
In the 67th minute, an Avro free-kick was diverted against a post and Kyle Hawley reacted quickest to knock the rebound home.
