PONTEFRACT went into the game looking to jump into third place in order to gain a home advantage in the playoffs, whilst visitors Aycliffe were hoping for a top six finish themselves.
Connor Smythe scored Pontefract’s first goal in the 22nd minute as his cross found the top corner.
